Andrew Duncan's Favourite
London Walks is a compilation of walks from my
four previous London books. Just over half the walks
come from Walking London; the rest come from
Walking Village London, Walking Notorious
London and Secret London. With 50 walks,
Favourite London Walks is much bigger than
the individual source books – and therefore costs
a little more – and it's probably also the most
comprehensive London walking guide you can buy. If you
do all the walks in the book you will be more than entitled
to call yourself someone who knows London and its history
far better than the average Londoner. The walks cover
the whole of central London and parts beyond too, not
just well-known places like Richmond, Greenwich, Hampstead
and Kew, but gems way off the beaten track like Walthamstow,
Pinner, Carshalton and Bexley, all of which, I guarantee,
are surprises in store. There are also walks along the
courses of lost rivers like the Fleet and Tyburn, and
theme walks, including one on Jack the Ripper and the
notorious East End. As in the source books, each walk
comes complete with detailed map, full route directions,
historical and descriptive information, opening times
for museums, galleries, churches and historic houses,
toilet locations and suggestions for all-important refreshment
stops. This is my book of favourite London walks. I
hope you'll make it yours.
